Photography by Angela Hechtfisch.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-getting-to-masada\" class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Getting to \u201cMasada\u201d<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<center>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Masada<\/em> is a national park and ancient mountain fortress, crowned by an impressive palace complex built by <em>Herod the Great<\/em>. Rising dramatically above the Judean Desert near the southern part of the Dead Sea, it is one of Israel\u2019s most iconic attractions and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001.<\/p>\n<p>This article is dedicated mainly to the attractions surrounding Masada Mountain, while the following article focuses on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.xanado.co.il\/israel\/portfolio\/the-story-of-masada\/\">Masada\u2019s historical story<\/a> and its transformation into a powerful modern Zionist symbol\u2014famously expressed in <em>Yitzhak Lamdan\u2019s<\/em> 1927 poem &#8220;<em>Masada&#8221;<\/em> and the phrase associated with its legacy: \u201cMasada shall not fall again.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Getting to Masada \u2013 East or West?<\/h3>\n<p>There are two completely separate entrances to Masada: the eastern entrance and the western entrance. Most importantly, there is no road connecting the two sides around the mountain, so make sure you know which entrance you need before setting out. Driving from one side to the other requires a long detour through the desert and the city of Arad.<\/p>\n<p>The eastern entrance is the main entrance, providing access to the cable car and Snake Path. From Jerusalem, drive east toward the Dead Sea and continue south on Highway 90. From Arad, take Highway 31 toward the Dead Sea and then turn north onto Highway 90 toward Masada.<\/p>\n<p>The western entrance provides access to the <em>Roman Ramp<\/em>, Masada West campground, and the night show.
